The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
