Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.
The motive behind the incident has not been established and no arrests are in custody, police said.
How It Happened
Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building managing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"The report indicates the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video showed a individual with dreadlocks and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been tracking them to determine their destination," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to process his death.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the public to not sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's young family.
